Some days it is hammering through work without taking a lot of time to overthink things. And self care looks like different things on different days.

Self care is something that I talk about a lot. I am swinging for the fences here Dear Wild Heart how about you? I have learned that these times are essential to my longevity as a doer. I need sweatpants, dark chocolate, my pugs, and maybe my kid (depending on my mood). Days when I jokingly say, I need to be on or in eternal couch. So I have begun reframing my mindset around the ebbs of energy these days. This is of course a broken internal system that I picked up along the way when I somewhere tied my achievement to approval from others more than personal fulfillment and service to others and my Creator. So sometimes when my little fire is dim and I don’t have much steam to give I have questioned my own self worth. I am lit up by lifting others and getting things done. You see, I am an enthusiastic achiever-helper, according to my enneagram test anyway (like we needed a test to tell us that). If I am not producing at all times I am lazy and I won’t amount to anything. In the past, it was these days that I started to think that something is wrong with me. I need to let information filter down into me without me deflecting into work. I then sort and organize according to priority and proximity (read more about this in an upcoming post). I take time Sunday night to review my upcoming week at an eagle eye view, then each morning I look at what is on the agenda at a much closer scale. I have developed personal systems that reinforce this too. I can be very quick and precise with decisions, emails, and proposals. Some days I chew through to-do lists like a garbage disposal. No one is meant to go hard all of the time. In other words Dear Wild Heart, done is better than perfect AND we must ride the waves of energy. I believe it is this shift in perspective that has allowed me to have the success I have seen thus far in my endeavors. I must admit, I have asked myself the same question.
